4th Annual Crespi Carmelite Regatta
November 19th, 2024
On Tuesday, November 19, 2024 Crespi hosted it's 4th Annual Crespi Carmelite Regatta at the Robinson Family Aquatics Center. Students from five of our partner schools participated in this STEM project by building boats to race in the competition pool at noon. Schools formed teams of 3-6 students who built their boats from a list of pre-approved building materials such as rubber bands, wood, popsickle sticks, styrofoam and ballons. All boats were limited to a maximum size of 18" x 18".
As the students checked in their boats, they received complimentary "Crespi Regatta" t-shirts, and enjoyed hot dogs cooked by the Crespi Dads Club. Crespi provided a live stream produced by our Crespi Broadcasting team led by Mr. Gagnon and 6 of his students. The event was MC'd by Ms. Beck in Crespi Admissions. All hands were on deck for this amazing event, and we thank our partner schools for their creativity with their boats and great sportsmanship during the races.
After eight heats of preliminary races, two heats of semi-finals determined the four fastest teams who would race for the coveted Regatta Trophy. Ironically, and following their performance from years' prior, St. John Eudes produced all four of the winning teams in the final championship heat. But "The Flying Dutchman" would emerge victorious to have their name engraved on the trophy and displayed in their school until next year.
Participating schools this year included St. John Eudes, St. Bernardines, St. Mel, Good Shepherd, and Our Lady of Grace. With boat names like "Fish and Ships", "The Flying Dutchman", and "The Black Pearl" there was no shortage of fun times at our aquatics center. We welcome and encourage all Crespi partner schools to join in the fun and participate in the great STEM project by creating a boat and entering next year's 5th Annual Crespi Regatta.
