Athletic Training at Crespi

Athletic training is an allied healthcare profession that encompasses the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute, and chronic injuries and medical conditions. The education and clinical integration experience of a Certified Athletic Trainer follows that of the medical education model and encompasses competencies in evidence-based practice, prevention, and health promotion, clinical examination and diagnosis, acute care of injury and illness, therapeutic interventions, psychosocial strategies and referral, healthcare administration, and professional development and responsibility.

Athletic Trainers (ATs) are recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as allied healthcare professionals. ATs work in collaboration with or under the direction of physicians, and in accordance with their education, training, and state statutes, rules, and regulations.  ATs provide services that include primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergency care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

ATs are medical professionals credentialed through the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC).

Athletic Requirements

As required by CIF Bylaw 503G, all student-athletes are required to receive an annual pre-participation physical examination (PPE) certifying that the student-athlete is physically fit to participate in athletics. The physical must be completed and turned in to the athletics office on the school-approved Pre-participation Physical Examination Form prior to any tryout, practice, or interscholastic athletic competition. All physical examinations must be completed and signed by an MD, DO, PA-C, or NP. We are unable to accept any physical examination signed by any other provider that is not reflective of the listed credentials.

The goal of the PPE is to identify areas that can lead to injury, worsening an otherwise well-controlled medical problem, or identifying a problem that can lead to death during practice and competition.

Additionally, all incoming and returning student-athletes are required, on an annual basis, to complete the online athletic clearance prior to any participation in sports. This can be completed on Home Campus.

If you have any questions regarding the athletic clearance process, please do not hesitate to contact our Head Athletic Trainer, Ms. Kiani Reis.
