Teacher - Social Studies Department

Crespi Carmelite High School seeks a full-time teacher to join the Social Studies Department for the 2022-2023 school year. Class assignments may include World History, US History, AP World History, and/or AP US History.
 
Crespi Carmelite High School, established in Encino, California in 1959, serves male high school-age students who wish to pursue a Carmelite college preparatory, Christian education in a Catholic environment. Dedicated to excellence and responding to the challenges of education in our time, we offer a holistic model of education emphasizing the spiritual, intellectual, moral, physical, and social development of our students. 

In the spirit of the Gospel and the Carmelite tradition, the Crespi Community engages the student in three interlocking dimensions: Community, Prayer, and Justice. We seek to build a community that listens and bears witness to the divine plan through the promotion of justice in the service of the whole person.
 
Qualifications: Undergraduate degree required; teaching credential preferred; teaching experience preferred. Proficiency in the use of technology as it relates to daily school operations, instruction, and communication.
 
Duties: Support and seek always to fulfill the guiding Catholic mission of the school, ministering to school community members in the tradition of the Carmelites. Create, manage, and offer a variety of learning experiences that provide opportunities for students to develop their potential and achieve their learning objectives. Apply research-based practices to establish a boy-friendly learning environment that is inclusive of multiple intelligences. Participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well-being of the department and the school as well as the collective and individual interest of school faculty, staff, and student body.

Multiple positions may be available. Candidates with proficiency in chemistry, physiology, and/or computer science are encouraged to apply.

Academic Counselor - Counseling Department

Crespi Carmelite High School seeks a full-time academic counselor to join the Counseling Department for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year.
 
Crespi Carmelite High School’s Counseling Department operates on a grade-level model in which counselors progress from ninth grade through twelfth grade with the same cohort of students. Our school employs four grade-level counselors as well as a college counselor and a behavioral specialist.

  • Meet with students regularly to assess and improve academic progress.
  • Function as a liaison between students/parents and teachers.
  • Coordinate student scheduling processes, including schedule requests and changes.
  • Collaborate with other school departments to meet student needs, especially as related to absences or other hindrances to learning.
  • Participate in the formation of students’ character in conjunction with the Dean of Men.
  • Administer and interpret the results of standardized testing.
  • Assist families with requests for special needs accommodations.
  • Provide counseling services to students as needed/requested by students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Other responsibilities will be outlined during the interview.

Facilities: Plant Manager - 12 Month Position

Crespi Carmelite High School seeks a full-time Plant manager to join the school, starting May of 2022. 
 
Crespi Carmelite High School, established in Encino, California in 1959, serves male high school-age students who wish to pursue a Carmelite college preparatory, Christian education in a Catholic environment. Our mission is to build men of character and faith unified in brotherhood and formed through a contemporary, Catholic, college-preparatory education in the Carmelite tradition of prayer, community, and service.
 
Essential Duties of the Position: Supervise, manage, and execute maintenance for the school campus including buildings, athletics facilities, and utility infrastructure. Schedule, assign and provide input regarding the work of custodians and groundskeepers. Must be able to assist in the selection, supervision, training, and evaluation of assigned staff. Demonstrate custodial equipment and methods to custodians. Plan, prioritize, and assign work in order to meet schedules and timelines. Write and maintain routine records, reports, and correspondence. 
 
Working Conditions: 12-month position. Work is performed indoors and outdoors where significant health and safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of materials that include waste and bloodborne pathogens.
 
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and Skills: Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in custodial and general maintenance. Skill in using the full range of equipment used in custodial work. Basic understanding of the operating characteristics of various commercial/industrial-grade utilities, appliances, and equipment. Basic knowledge of work hazards, safety techniques, lifting procedures, and handling of materials that may include waste and bloodborne pathogens. Knowledge of leadership practices. Sufficient English language writing skills to document work activities. Basic computer skills. Sufficient human relations skills to influence the productivity of a small team and work cooperatively with site personnel and the public. Ability to work varying schedules and other duties assigned.
 
  • Physical Abilities Required: Ability to function effectively indoors and outdoors engaging in work of primarily an active nature; near visual acuity to write, read directions, produce labels, and observe environmental conditions; sufficient hearing and speech for ordinary communication, to hear sound prompts from equipment, and to determine if the equipment is functioning properly; manual and finger dexterity to write, to clean, and to make minor repairs; ability to lift, carry, push, pull, bend, squat, reach, and twist and turn head and trunk to clean and to move furniture, equipment, and debris; and stand and walk for extended periods of time. 
 
  • Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent and five years of experience performing custodial work in a public agency or industrial complex, including one year of experience in a lead capacity. 
 
  • Licenses and Certificates: Valid California driver’s license. Pool maintenance certificate preferred.
