HEAD VARSITY BASKETBALL COACH

Crespi Carmelite High School, established in Encino, California in 1959, serves male high school age students who wish to pursue a Carmelite college preparatory, Christian education in a Catholic environment. JOB SUMMARY:
The Head Basketball Coach will work under the supervision of the Director of Athletics in accordance with Crespi Carmelite High School’s mission statement. The position objective is individual character and adult staff development. The Head Basketball Coach must realize and appreciate the need for the basketball program to work with other sports as a complement to the entire athletic department and overall school community.
 
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Head Basketball Coach will provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in basketball. The Head Basketball Coach will also contribute to the school’s education program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so that they are successfully competitive.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • All applicants must submit a current resume with a cover letter and references
 
Experience:
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a head varsity basketball coach is preferred

Knowledge:
  • Must have experience or a desire to work in a Catholic school
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the game is paramount including extensive knowledge of current coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of CIF rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes
  • Utilization of technology is required

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in basketball
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship
  • Work with other members of the Crespi Carmelite community to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes
  • Ensures that all basketball coaches work together toward a common goal within the basketball program and provide unity with a structured lower-level system
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation
  • Work with the Director of Athletics to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the program
  • Accompany and supervise student-athletes during athletic competitions
  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices
  • Maintains, files, and copies all pertinent CIF materials and ensures that CIF guidelines are followed
  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Crespi Carmelite High School’s Parent/Student Handbook
  • Annually prepare an itemized operational budget for the basketball program to be submitted to the Director of Finance
  • Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting regular conferences with student-athletes, parents, and the Director of Athletics and, when necessary, with other members of the Crespi Carmelite community, including but not limited to, the faculty, Principal, and President
  • Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within the basketball program
  • Annually establish and meet performance goals
  • Understands and can articulate the role in admissions, development, and advancement
  • The President or his/her designee may assign other duties, including teaching responsibilities, and accountabilities limited to those consistent with the applicable job function and pay grade.

Science Teacher - STEM Department, Science

Crespi Carmelite High School seeks a full-time teacher to join the STEM - Science Department for the 2019-2020 school year. Specific courses may include Biology, Chemistry, and Computer Science.

Qualifications: Undergraduate degree required; teaching credential preferred; teaching experience preferred. Proficiency in the use of technology as it relates to daily school operations, instruction, and communication.
 
Duties: Support and seek always to fulfill the guiding Catholic mission of the school, ministering to school community members in the tradition of the Carmelites. Create, manage, and offer a variety of learning experiences that provide opportunities for students to develop their potential and achieve their learning objectives. Apply research-based practices to establish a boy-friendly learning environment that is inclusive of multiple intelligences. Participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well being of the department and the school as well as the collective and individual interest of school faculty, staff, and student body.
