| Counseling Services |
College and Academic Counseling: Mrs. Sharon Barkins-Wasson is the Director of Counseling. She works with seniors, juniors, parents, college representatives, and coordinates the college programs. Mr. Bill Kearns is the junior college counselor working with all juniors and assisting in the coordination of college information programs. Mr.
Kearns is the coordinator of the Students with Learning Disabilities Services. Mr. Ron Thomas is the sophomore counselor providing both academic and personal counseling. The freshman counselor, Academic Game Plan counselor, and coordinator of the Bridge Program is Mr. Eric Banducci. All counselors provide academic and personal counseling. The registrar is Ms. Joan Weaver.
Psychotherapist: Ms. Linda Simon, MFT is available on Mondays and Thursdays for crisis intervention, grief counseling, and family intervention.

The Counseling Department provides the following services to parents and students:

· Meets with students and parents
· Advises students with scheduling of classes
· Advises students on study methods
· Works as liaison between students and teachers
· Counsels students on interrelational problems and conflicts
· Initiates crisis intervention procedures when need arises
· Keeps parents informed of their son’s academic progress
· Administers the PSAT, extended time SAT’s, and extended time finals
· Writes letters of recommendation upon request from universities and colleges
· Assist in the registering of ACT and SAT tests
· Provides information to students on Career Day, Teen Issues Day, and
Drug/Alcohol/Aids Awareness Programs
· Moderator of the National Honor Society
· Provides information to parents through Parent Information Nights
· Organizes College Knowledge Nights, Financial Aid Nights, College
Recruiting Information Nights
· Tallies the necessary points for those qualifying for Academic Letter
· Conducts group guidance sessions (Peer Counseling)
· Hosts College Representatives
· Conducts psychological testing when appropriate
· Makes referrals to other mental health professionals or agencies
· Referral base for students who may be experiencing substance abuse problems
· Provides information on colleges and universities
· Provides recruiting tapes and catalogues
· Provides information on scholarships
· Conducts application workshops and college essay workshops
· Resource for the UC and CALSTATE applications
· Resource for the FAFSA, Profile CSS, and NCAA Clearinghouse forms
· Provides information on military academies
· Provides seniors and juniors with a college handbook
· Assigns tutors for students having academic difficulties
· Interprets PSAT, SAT, and ACT scores
· Collects assignments for students with extended absences
· Chaperones student retreats (Kairos, Day of Recollection)
· Proctors Extended PSAT exams and AP exams
