The Crespi Carmelite Players Shoot for the Stars in "Moon Over Buffalo"
“Moon Over Buffalo” is a fast-moving comedy that centers on a family of actors trying to make a show come together, running October 23-29, 2011 at Crespi of Encino. http://www.crespi.org |
With so many different theatrical components, this year’s show has brought more to Crespi Drama than ever before.
Encino, CA (PRWEB) October 07, 2011
Crespi Drama’s fall production of “Moon Over Buffalo” is directed by Peter Jeensalute, a Crespi and Loyola Marymount alumnus. Jeensalute studied acting at Loyola but also had the opportunity to study in Bonn, Germany, as well as at the highly acclaimed Moscow Art Theater in Russia.
“Moon Over Buffalo” is a fast-moving comedy that centers on a family of actors trying to make a show come together. http://youtu.be/xm4ruZHn50A
Set in the early 1950s in Buffalo, New York, stage actors George (Andrew Arreola and Christopher Lynch, alternately) and Charlotte Hay (Apollonia Turturro) are offered the chance to perform for Frank Capra, a famous film director.
However, things go terribly wrong when George disappears and Charlotte and their daughter, Rosalind (Michelle Stoll), must find him and keep the play of their lives from falling apart.
Unlike many other previous Crespi Drama productions, “Moon Over Buffalo” utilizes a great deal of physical comedy, including a wrestling match, a sword fight, and even a fall from the stage into an orchestra pit. To facilitate this action, the actors received additional training with JoAnn Mendelson, a stage combat instructor at Loyola Marymount.
Crespi Drama is working hard to bring the play’s aesthetic to the audience in other ways too. As Crespi was not able to attain funding for an outside theater, set designers have worked tirelessly to construct a portable raised stage to accentuate the play-within-a-play aspect.
Even the concession stand has undergone an overhaul, donning a 1950s soda shop look complete with sundaes.
With so many different theatrical components, this year’s show has brought more to Crespi Drama than ever before. “Moon Over Buffalo” runs from October 23-29, 2011 at Crespi of Encino, and the show is sure to be entertaining. Curtain time is 7:00 PM for all showings.
If last year’s sold-out "Dracula" shows are any indication of the popularity of Crespi Drama productions, please arrive early to ensure seating. |

National Honor Society (NHS)
Chapter #027553 |
The National Honor Society is the front-runner of organizations and societies that promote appropriate recognition for students. Selection is based on four criteria: 1) Scholarship, 2) Leadership, 3) Service, and 4) Character. To fulfill the scholarship requirement, students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better. Students may petition for membership, but Crespi Carmelite High School considers membership an honor bestowed upon individual students from 10th, 11th and 12th grade.
NHS not only recognizes the academic efforts of our students, but exposes their generosity and dedication to their community. NHS members must not only maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, but also volunteer to help at many of the Crespi High School functions and activities.

California Scholarship Federation (CSF)
Chapter #864sc |
The CSF is a statewide organization whose purpose is to foster academic achievement and service to the school and community. Any student who maintains membership in CSF for four semesters out of six in his last three years (one of which must be his senior year) and who has done assigned service to Crespi becomes a Gold Seal member. This honor is signified by a gold seal on the diploma and enables the students to compete for college and university scholarships.Membership is for one semester and is conferred during the semester following the one in which the qualifying grades were earned. In order to join CSF, a student must have a total of ten points based on last semester marks. The CSF points are calculated as follows:
| Grade of “A” in a subject which grants 5 semester credits |
3 points |
| Grade of “B” |
1 point |
| Grade of “C” |
0 points |
If a student receives a “D” or “F” grade in any subject, he is excluded from CSF membership for that semester.
