THE CELTS WIN 2009 DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIP AT ANAHEIM STADIUM: CRESPI 8 - HUNTINGTON BEACH 1

The Celts are annually one of the strongest teams in the San Fernando area. Scott Muckey, in his twenty –fourth season as head coach of the Celts, led Crespi to win its first ever CIF Championship (Division III) in 2003 by defeating Harvard-Westlake at Anaheim Stadium. In 2004, the Celts finished runner-up in CIF Division III with a close loss to Katella at Dodger Stadium. The Celts won their first CIF Division II Championship in 2009 with an 8-1 victory over Huntington Beach at Anaheim Stadium, very impressive to say the least.

The Celts play their home games at Valley College and practice either at Crespi (batting cages) or at Balboa Park (field). Members of the tough Mission League, the Celts always pride themselves in playing the best competition in the surrounding San Fernando Valley area. Crespi is part of CIF Division II. Crespi baseball is the home to Major League Player Jeff Suppan, a 1993 Crespi graduate and member of the Milwaukee Brewers. 2000 graduate Brian Horwitz has seen major league action with the San Francisco Giants. 2004 Crespi graduate Trevor Plouffe was drafted #20 in the first round of the Major League draft and is a member of the Minnesota Twins organization. 2004 Crespi graduate Ollie Linton is a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks and 2005 graduate Michael Gilmartin is a member of the Oakland Athletics. Sean Gilmartin (‘08) was a freshman All American at Florida State, Matt Scioscia (‘07) plays at Notre Dame, Ryan Hawthorne (‘08) plays at Loyola Marymount, Jeremy Rodriguez plays at Cal State Bakersfield, Carlos Lopez (‘08) plays at Cal State Fullerton, and Tyler Johnson (‘08) plays at Stonybrook.
